SLO Advice and FAQ

SLO Advice

Fundraising

  1. Don’t hesitate to ask professional organizations that are related to your goals for sponsorship.

  2. Many SLOs hold pub nights or club nights at either the Thirsty Moose Pub, or the establishments downtown. The Thirsty Moose Pub does not charge rental fees and ticket sales are always yours, and no need to worry about insurance and other licenses!

  3. If you’re in a pinch or want some easy money, you can always contact nugss-gm@unbc.ca to see if the Thirsty Moose Pub has any recyclables to give away!

  4. Poke around on the internet. There may be grants or other financial incentives lying about that you hadn’t thought of!

  5. Create some unique partnerships with other SLOs! You never know what kind of resources or resourcefulness is in some organization that you haven’t talked to yet!

  6. Some SLOs have membership fees. That may be something to consider.

Actions

  1. Don’t be afraid to dress up your meetings! Make a good agenda so that everyone can get out on time.

  2. Make sure that people understand the existing rules of your SLO. That way, everyone will be on a level playing field, and people will learn the ways that they can appropriately contribute.

  3. Be organized, whether it be in the regular activities or positions that your SLO takes or otherwise

  4. Be inclusive! Don’t just settle for those in your social circles or your program. Reach out to those that may have never even thought of joining your group. It may help the club and the person immeasurably.

Being involved with an SLO is a huge part of what makes UNBC so enjoyable for students. Thank you for taking part. It helps all UNBC students.
